Do you care about inclusivity and making websites everyone can use, especially people with disabilities? Perfect! Those are the only qualifications you need to volunteer at WP Accessibility Day 2024!

The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone, regardless of disability, is an essential aspect.

WordPress Accessibility Day is a nonprofit event organized and run entirely by volunteers who share a common goal: to advocate for and create an accessible internet. And we need you to join us!

Day-of Positions

WP Accessibility Day 2024 will run 24 hours from October 9th to October 10th, beginning at 10:00 AM Central/3:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). We need help before, during, and after the event.

There are several different ways to join in, and you don’t need any experience volunteering for or organizing an event. There are jobs available for people of all skill levels and abilities and people with technical and non-technical backgrounds

Emcees

You’ll introduce speakers, communicate with the speaker to ask questions passed by the moderator, and announce other event business. Exciting note: You will appear on camera for introductions and questions!

Moderators

You’ll enforce our Code of Conduct in the chat and pass questions to the emcee. At the Zoom transitions, post the new link information in Chat. This role ensures our sessions run as smooth as silk.

Backup Moderators/Volunteer Point of Contact

Ensure all volunteers are checking in on Slack 15 minutes before their shift begins. Backup to the moderator for any Code of Conduct issues or technical questions. Your presence keeps everyone else calm.

Post-event translations

We are looking for individuals who are fluent in English (our primary event language) and another language. Our initial target languages are Spanish (South/Latin American) and French (European). However, if you are fluent in another language and interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you!

We will provide the original English transcript and an automatically-generated translation of each 1-hour long presentation. We ask volunteers to review the generated translations and make any edits, as needed, for clarity, readability, and accuracy in the new language to the original English.

If you’re interested, use our Translator Application instead.

Ready to volunteer?

Apply to Volunteer!

Please note that filling out our form does not guarantee a volunteer position; we will choose volunteers carefully and contact you as soon as possible. Remember, no organizing or volunteer experience is necessary — if you believe in an accessible internet, that’s what matters!
